Who We Are

Mountain bikes started calling to me in the 1980s when my Dad brought home a big wheeled Schwinn. It would take me until 1993 to get my own and begin exploring the trails of WNC on bike. Since then, tens of thousands of miles have passed beneath my wheels and I’ve no intention of stopping.

I conceived of Mountain Top Shuttles as a way to make the trails around Old Fort, NC more accessible. These trails are steep and deep! Sometimes we don’t have all day to ride or to climb 5,000+ vertical feet. Sometimes we just need to get out there and choose our own adventure. Whatever your riding pleasure, you gotta get up to get down.

What I love most about riding bikes is that it gives me both time to think on the uphills and time to stop thinking on the downhills. In the Old Fort, NC area, the Gateway Trails are my favorites. The trail actually named Gateway is super flow and reminds me of skiing Peak 6 at Breckenridge, CO.

I created Mountain Top Shuttles in order to support the community and economy of Old Fort. This town needed something to tie together the efforts by the USFS, the G5 Trail Collective, People on the Move and the Eagle Street Market Development Corporation with the local businesses of down town. Also, as someone born in Old Fort, I want to see this town thrive. So, when you’re done riding, be sure to stop in for a drink and food at Whaley Farm Brewery, Abbiocco Pizza, Hillman Beer, Black Beary’s Cafe, Headwaters Kitchen, Davis Cafe, Euda Wine and all the other locally run businesses in town. Gateway Museum is a treat too!
